NuLa Candles may have a higher initial cost than some wax candles, but because they are refillable, everlasting, eco conscious, and uniquely designed, they will likely cost less over time when compared to the cost of constantly replacing traditional candles. Competitors sell a single candle for $25 to $30 dollars, which have an estimated burn time of 24-45 hours. A bottle of NuLa Liquid Paraffin will allow for 80-200 hours of burn time. That would be the equivalent of purchasing between 5-8 wax candles for close to two hundred dollars, making NuLa the most cost effective real flame candles on the market.

General Questions

How long do NuLa Candles last? NuLa Candles are everlasting! The life of the candle will be extended with proper care and use. The amount of time they will burn before needing to be refilled will depend on the size and shape of the candle jar. The 4" tall candle will burn slowly for 30+ hours between 8 oz refills. To ensure proper care, make sure the wick is always submerged in the NuLa Liquid Paraffin. The fiberglass wick must be soaked for the candle to light properly. If your candle is lit for a prolonged period of time (10+ hours), we suggest lifting the top of the candle to make sure there is enough NuLa Liquid in the jar to completely submerge the wick, which will secure a successful burn.

Does the wick need to be replaced? The fiberglass wick on a NuLa Candle does not actually burn, so in effect, the wick should never need to be replaced. Our wicks allow NuLa Liquid Paraffin to vaporize, producing a beautiful flame. Proper care can elongate the life of the wick, but after years of use, the performance of the fiberglass wick may begin to diminish. In the event this happens, we do offer replacement wicks for purchase at a very inexpensive price at www.nulacandles.com

Can I put fragrance oil in the NuLa Liquid Paraffin? No. Burning fragrant oil alters the fragrance molecules, most often diminishing or eliminating fragrance as the candle burns. Burning Fragrance oils is not recommended and may diminish the performance of your NuLa Candle.

Can I use fuels/oils other than NuLa Liquid Paraffin? We do not recommend using any other products. NuLa Liquid Paraffin is the highest grade liquid paraffin available. If other fuels/oils are burned in a NuLa Candle, we cannot guarantee the performance, cleanliness or safety of these products.

Can I use Citronella Oil in the NuLa Candles outdoors? We highly advise against the use of Citronella Oil. We cannot guarantee the performance, cleanliness, or safety of any other products and the impact they may have on your candle, its burn performance, and longevity.

Can I burn NuLa Candles outdoors? Yes! NuLa Candles add a beautiful aesthetic indoors, as well as outdoors. NuLa Candles have a real flame, and just like most candles, the flame is subject to the influence of wind, and permitting weather.

The flame on my candle is too low, what should I do?

  1. There may not be an adequate amount of NuLa Liquid Paraffin in the candle. Before every burn (especially after prior extensive burn sessions) we highly recommend checking the reservoir to ensure there is enough NuLa Liquid Paraffin to guarantee a sufficient burning experience.
  2. The wick height may be too low. NuLa Candles come with a height calibrated for a default flame height. Please note, that changes to the height of the wick will have a significant impact on flame height. A wick that is too high, will lead to an insufficient burn which can then produce ash and soot. Please ensure your wick is ⅛ of an inch above the Pyrex holder
  3. After long periods of burn time, the fiberglass wick may have some Carbon buildup on it, which will hinder performance. When this happens, moisten a paper towel with NuLa Liquid and firmly clean off the tip of the wick.

It is important to note that because NuLa Candles come with a wick height calibrated for a default flame, NEVER cut or trim your NuLa Candle wick. If the wick has been cut or trimmed, you may observe a ‘split’ wick which will produce two flames, in which case you will need to replace the wick.

The flame on my candle is too high, what should I do? If your flame is too high, the exposed part of the wick above the Pyrex glass is too long. Remove the candle top, and gently pull it down so that the exposed end of the wick gets shorter. When the wick is about ⅛ of an inch exposed above the Pyrex, it should burn with the correct flame height.

My candle is filled with NuLa Liquid Paraffin but won't light.  If you have just refilled your NuLa Candle, please allow a couple minutes for the wick to fully absorb the paraffin. If the problem persists we suggest wiping off the wick with a dry paper towel and/or increasing the height of the wick. Please also make sure there is no water present in the reservoir of your jar. Any water present will prevent the wick from lighting when it is mixed with NuLa Liquid Paraffin.

How can I prevent overfilling my candle? NuLa 4” Candles - Fill your candle with 8oz of NuLa Liquid Paraffin to prevent overfilling the candle reservoir.

How do I clean my candle? Hand Wash the refillable jar of your candle with warm water and a non-abrasive dish soap. Before washing the top, remove the wick to prevent water absorption. After you wash your candle top, we suggest ample drying time to ensure the water that may have gotten into the Pyrex glass tubing has ample time to dry. Any water present in the top or bottom of your candle will prevent the wick from lighting when mixed with NuLa Liquid Paraffin.

Can NuLa Candles break? NuLa Candle jars are made of ceramic, and as such, may break if they are dropped onto a hard surface from significant height. It is very unlikely that your candle top will break. Should your Pyrex wick holder crack, or loosen, replacement tops are available by emailing Nulacandlesllc@gmail.com. Because the bottom of the candle is ceramic/glass, they should always be handled with care.

What is the small hole in the top of the candle for? The small hole serves as an air outlet to maintain consistent air pressure inside and outside of the jar. The air outlet allows for the NuLa Liquid Paraffin to seep into the fiberglass wick and be drawn up to the top of the wick to maintain a beautiful, consistent flame.

How long should I wait to touch the Pyrex wick holder or NuLa Scent Stone after the candle is blown out? The wick holder and NuLa Fragrance Scent Stone should cool to room temperature within 10 minutes. The candle will also be safe to hold from the sides or bottom of the candle jar, as the heat will be isolated to the top of the candle only.
